President Ilham Aliyev Receives Credentials of Newly Appointed German Ambassador
Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received newly appointed German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Dirk Lölke on August 13, who presented his credentials to the head of state.
During the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev recalled his official visit to Germany last month, noting that productive discussions on bilateral relations and international developments were held with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The Azerbaijani President said the two countries share similar positions on regional stability, security and development, while noting that new areas of cooperation identified during the visit could contribute to strengthening mutual understanding and bilateral partnership.
President Aliyev highlighted the significance of the Joint Declaration on a Strategic Agenda for Bilateral Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Republic of Germany, signed in Berlin, saying the document had elevated bilateral relations to a qualitatively higher level.
He noted that Azerbaijan and Germany are developing strategic cooperation across a wide range of areas, while growing opportunities in trade, investment and business are providing additional momentum to bilateral ties. The President also emphasized the importance of the German ambassador beginning his diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan following his visit to Germany.
President Aliyev wished Ambassador Lölke success in his diplomatic activities.
The German ambassador expressed gratitude for the reception and congratulated President Aliyev on the first anniversary of the Azerbaijan-Armenia summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025.
In response, President Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to advancing the regional peace agenda, stressing that the initiative had been launched by Azerbaijan and that the country would continue efforts to promote lasting peace. He stated that peace in the region had become irreversible.
Ambassador Lölke said the German government was highly satisfied with the results of President Aliyev’s visit to Germany and expressed hope that the issues discussed during the visit would be implemented promptly.
The meeting also covered Azerbaijan-European Union relations and the positive momentum observed in their recent development.
The sides further exchanged views on the East-West Transport Corridor, including opportunities for German companies to benefit from the route’s potential. They also discussed prospects for cooperation in traditional and renewable energy, as well as education.
The meeting reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership and expanding cooperation across economic, transport, energy and educational sectors.
