Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has announced the government’s target of disbursing up to Rp400 trillion (more than US$22 billion) in loans in 2027 to support the productivity of 28 million beneficiary families across the country.

Speaking at the National Coordination Meeting of Regional Financial Access Acceleration Teams (TPAKD) in Jakarta on Thursday, Prabowo said the lending programme would target various segments of society, including farmers, fishers, rural communities, low-income urban residents, and people living in underdeveloped, frontier and outermost regions.

Assuming an average of four people per family, the programme is expected to benefit approximately 100 million Indonesians nationwide, he added.

The president emphasized that public welfare remains at the heart of the government’s economic policy, highlighting the importance of strengthening household purchasing power and ensuring that economic growth translates into tangible improvements in people’s lives.

He said the country’s economic strength must be felt directly by farmers in villages, fishers in coastal communities, market traders, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and mothers working to support their families financially.

Prabowo urged all government institutions to translate the objective of public welfare into practical measures that improve household incomes and living standards.

“True welfare is reflected in real increases in people’s income. Every family must have real purchasing power. This is what we are fighting for,” he remarked.

On the same occasion, the president commended the Financial Services Authority (OJK), relevant ministries and regional administrations for their efforts in establishing Regional Financial Access Acceleration Teams across all provinces, districts and cities by the end of 2024.

Prabowo also symbolically marked the disbursement of Rp53.15 trillion (approximately US$3 billion) in loans to around 2.1 million borrowers, including MSMEs, farmers, fishers and entrepreneurs from various economic sectors.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to expand access to financing, strengthen grassroots economic activity and improve the financial well-being of households throughout Indonesia.
