President Joko Widodo Sets Ambitious Target for Rokan Block Oil Production
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, has announced a determined effort to increase oil production in the Rokan Block in Riau to 200,000 barrels per day (bpd). This announcement comes as the block, now under the full management of the state-run company Pertamina, has seen a significant rise in output.
Previously managed by Chevron, the Rokan Block produced 130,000 bpd. Since Pertamina assumed control, production has increased to 162,000 bpd. President Jokowi highlighted this achievement in a statement issued by his office in Jakarta on Saturday.
Gathering with high-ranking officials in Dumai, Riau, to celebrate the inception of Pancasila, Indonesia’s state philosophy, Jokowi emphasized that the country’s success in boosting oil production was a fitting reason to commemorate Pancasila in the city.
“Since the state assumed control of the block’s operations, its oil production has surged. This is a positive development,” Jokowi stated.
The President set an ambitious target for expanding the Rokan Block’s production capacity, aiming to exceed 200,000 bpd. He revealed that Pertamina has adopted a new technology that has significantly increased production at one well.
“This technology will be applied to other selected wells to further enhance production,” he added.
Jokowi emphasized that the exploration using this new technology will continue throughout this year, with additional new wells planned for exploration next year.
“By next year, we aim to apply it to two or three wells,” he remarked.
This initiative marks a significant step in Indonesia’s efforts to boost its domestic oil production and reduce reliance on imported energy. The increased production from the Rokan Block is expected to contribute substantially to the country’s energy security and economic growth.
