President Jokowi Inaugurates FIBA Representative Office in Indonesia
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed the nation’s pride and enthusiasm as he inaugurated the new representative office of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in Indonesia on Tuesday at Danareksa Tower, Jakarta. The opening of the FIBA office marks a significant milestone in Indonesia’s efforts to advance its basketball performance and international presence in the sport.
“This office stands as concrete proof of FIBA’s support for our ongoing efforts to accelerate improvements in Indonesian basketball,” President Jokowi remarked during the ceremony. He also thanked FIBA for entrusting Indonesia to co-host the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, which was successfully held in Jakarta.
President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia remains committed to fostering future sports stars through comprehensive training and mentoring programs. The president reiterated that the country will continue to invest in world-class sports infrastructure and increase its collaboration with international federations such as FIBA.
“These efforts are geared toward producing more outstanding athletes who will achieve success on the global stage, making the nation proud,” Jokowi added.
The establishment of the FIBA office further reinforces Indonesia’s commitment to the development of basketball. Earlier this year, on May 2, Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo highlighted that the office symbolizes international confidence in Indonesia’s growing basketball scene. After meeting with FIBA executive committee member Ingo Weiss in Jakarta, the minister noted that FIBA would actively support the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) by deploying a dedicated team to enhance basketball-related human resources, including the development of coaches, referees, and youth programs.
With the backing of FIBA, Indonesia aims to strengthen its basketball ecosystem and foster future talents, ensuring the country’s continued rise in international sports competitions.
