President Prabowo Receives Qatari Minister, Discusses Investment Cooperation and Diplomatic Milestone

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Monday received Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, during a courtesy call at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, where the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation.
According to a statement by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, the Qatari minister conveyed warm greetings and high appreciation from the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to President Prabowo.
“The Emir of Qatar also praised President Prabowo’s leadership and Indonesia’s economic progress, particularly expressing support for healthcare, education and nutritious meal programmes,” Teddy said.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between Indonesia and Qatar, particularly in the areas of investment and economic development, as well as preparations for the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The two sides also discussed the planned visit of the Emir of Qatar to Indonesia in late 2026, which is expected to serve as a major milestone in commemorating five decades of diplomatic ties between Jakarta and Doha.
During the talks, Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its investment presence in Indonesia and announced an investment commitment valued at US$4 billion, while also expressing interest in expanding investments across a range of strategic sectors.
Officials said the commitment reflects Qatar’s confidence in Indonesia’s economic prospects and underscores the growing strategic partnership between the two Muslim-majority nations.
The investment cooperation is expected to support Indonesia’s national development priorities, strengthen key sectors of the economy and generate tangible benefits for the people of both countries.
Monday’s meeting highlighted the increasingly close relations between Indonesia and Qatar, with cooperation continuing to expand beyond diplomacy into investment, economic development and other strategic areas of mutual interest.
