President Tokayev meets rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University
Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received rector of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev, according to the reports of Akorda press service.
At the meeting, the President was familiarized with the university’s activity in terms of training of future specialists and research work. On top of that, Zhanseit Tuimebayev presented to the President the strategic plan of the university’s development. The university is to mark its 90th anniversary next year.
According to Tuimebayev, presently the university is implementing some 400 research projects worth 8.1 billion tenge. He also revealed that a branch of China’s Northwestern Polytechnical University started its work at the KazNU on October 12. The agreement on the opening of the branch was signed as part of President Tokayev’s visit to China this May.
The second stage of the KazNU campus’ construction is slated to start in 2024. Eight academic facilities, a technopark and 12 dormitories are to be constructed. Construction of three dormitories for 3180 beds is expected to begin in the nearest future.
In conclusion, the Head of State gave specific instructions on improving the quality of education, enhancing the contribution of science into the country’s development and modernization of the university campus.
