President Tokayev takes part in inauguration ceremony of bust of Abu Nasr Al-Farabi
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who is paying an official visit to Beijing, took part in the inauguration ceremony of the bust of Abu Nasr Al-Farabi, world-famous medieval philosopher and scientist, held in the territory of the Beijing Language and Culture University, according to the reports of Akorda.
Those attending the ceremony were Vice Minister of Education of China Wang Guangyan, Secretary of the School Party Committee of the BLCU Ni Haidong, Rector of the BLCU Duan Peng, as well as Director of the National Art Museum of China and the author of the bust Wu Weishan.
In his speech the Kazakh President spoke about the contribution made by Al-Farabi to the intellectual rise of the global civilization.
“The great thinker of the East, who made a great contribution to the development of the entire world civilization, Al-Farabi was born and raised in Kazakhstan. He traveled to many countries in search of knowledge. He played an outstanding role in the formation of mathematics, natural science, astronomy, philology, and studied other branches of science. His contribution to the development of mankind is immeasurable. In his philosophical works, Al-Farabi focused on the idea of Justice. He attached special importance to shaping a merciful society and a harmonious state. He stood for moral and spiritual values. He studied such kinds of art as music and calligraphy,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev adding that contemporaries called Al-Farabi, who had encyclopedic knowledge, the “Second Teacher” after Aristotle.
He stressed that the works of Al-Farabi have always been relevant and will never lose their value.
The Head of State reminded that the 1150th anniversary of Al-Farabi was celebrated in 2020 under the auspices of the UNESCO. A number of international scientific symposia and conferences were held. Monographs and collections were published. Documentary films were shot.
“All this allowed us to deeply comprehend the works by Al-Farabi and opened opportunities for popularizing his rich heritage. Now a number of research works devoted to the philosopher will be available for Chinese scholars and youth”, the Kazakh leader said.
The President reminded that he studied at the Beijing Language and Culture University and the opening of the bust to Abu Nasr Al-Farabi is a great honor for him. The Head of State expressed confidence that here the heritage of the great thinker will be comprehensively studied, which will contribute to the strengthening of cultural ties. He also expressed gratitude to the Government of China, Beijing University of Language and Culture, National Art Museum of China and outstanding sculptor Wu Weishan for the support of this initiative.
