Royal Air Maroc Expands Fleet with New Boeing 737 MAX 8

Agadir, The Gulf Observer: Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is set to further expand and modernise its fleet with the arrival of a new Boeing 737 MAX 8, registered CN-RHR, taking the airline’s fleet to more than 69 aircraft, including those operated by its regional subsidiary, RAM Express.
The upcoming delivery marks another step in the Moroccan flag carrier’s ongoing fleet expansion strategy and will further strengthen the presence of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 across its short- and medium-haul network.
The aircraft will be the 18th Boeing 737 MAX 8 delivered to RAM and the 45th Boeing single-aisle aircraft in the airline’s fleet, according to information regarding the upcoming delivery.
The latest addition is expected to strengthen RAM’s capacity on high-demand routes connecting Morocco with destinations across Europe, West Africa and the Middle East. It will also offer passengers the enhanced cabin experience and operational efficiencies associated with the latest-generation aircraft.
RAM’s fleet expansion forms part of an ambitious long-term development strategy. In July 2023, the Moroccan government and Royal Air Maroc signed a 2023–2037 programme contract aimed at transforming the carrier into a global airline and expanding its fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037.
The strategy also calls for a substantial expansion of RAM’s international network. The airline has outlined plans to increase the number of destinations it serves to 143 by 2037, while strengthening connectivity between Morocco and markets across Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East.
The national carrier has already accelerated its international network expansion, with new direct routes launched or announced to destinations including Beijing, São Paulo, Los Angeles, Manchester, Saint Petersburg and N’Djamena.
The fleet and network expansion strategy is aligned with Morocco’s broader efforts to strengthen its aviation infrastructure and establish Casablanca as a major international air hub.
The African Development Bank has noted that RAM’s planned expansion to 200 aircraft by 2037 will require significant upgrades to Morocco’s airport infrastructure, including substantial increases in capacity at key airports.
The continued fleet renewal is expected to enhance Royal Air Maroc’s operational capabilities, support the expansion of its international network and reinforce Morocco’s position as an increasingly important aviation gateway between Africa and global markets.
