Sialkot International Airport Proposes New Air Corridor to Addis Ababa to Boost Pakistan–Ethiopia Connectivity

Sialkot, The Gulf Observer: Sialkot International Airport (SIAL) has expressed strong interest in establishing a Sialkot–Addis Ababa air corridor aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing trade and travel between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The proposal was presented by Vice Chairman of SIAL, Mr. Waqas Afzal, during a meeting with H.E. Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia, who warmly welcomed the initiative.
During his visit to the airport, the Ambassador was received by the Vice Chairman, members of the Board of Directors, and the Chief Executive Officer of SIAL. The discussions focused on expanding aviation cooperation and improving direct connectivity between the two countries.
Addressing the SIAL board, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of enhanced air links between Pakistan and Ethiopia, noting that improved connectivity would significantly facilitate trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. He further highlighted the strategic role of Ethiopian Airlines in connecting Pakistan not only with Ethiopia but also with wider African destinations, through both passenger and cargo operations.
Vice Chairman Waqas Afzal briefed the Ambassador on SIAL’s operational capabilities and strategic objectives, underscoring the potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in the aviation sector. Both sides expressed optimism regarding future collaboration to advance regional connectivity and economic engagement.
