Tajik President, OSCE Secretary General Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held talks with Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Feridun Sinirlioğlu to review the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Tajikistan and the international organization.

During the meeting, President Rahmon reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the OSCE, describing the organization as an important international partner for the country.

The discussions focused on cooperation across the OSCE’s three main dimensions — politico-military, economic and environmental, and human development. President Rahmon stressed the importance of ensuring that projects and programmes implemented in Tajikistan effectively address the real needs of the population.

The Tajik leader highly appreciated the activities of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe and the OSCE Border Management Staff College, highlighting their contribution to regional stability and institutional development.

In the politico-military sphere, both sides emphasized continued implementation of projects aimed at preventing cybercrime, combating illicit drug trafficking, improving customs procedures, and enhancing information exchange.

Special attention was also given to expanding cooperation in the economic and environmental sectors, particularly in water and climate issues, green economy initiatives, renewable energy, and digital technologies.

The two sides additionally discussed preparations for upcoming international conferences on global security issues and counterterrorism financing, scheduled to be held in Dushanbe and New York in May and June this year.

Human dimension cooperation also featured prominently in the talks, including collaboration in the protection of human rights, electoral system reforms, gender equality, prevention of domestic violence, combating human trafficking, youth policy development, and strengthening the capacity of mass media institutions.

The meeting further included an exchange of views on key regional and international issues. President Rahmon reiterated Tajikistan’s consistent position on resolving conflicts through peaceful means, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in international relations.

“We consider negotiations and diplomacy the only effective tools for strengthening trust in international relations,” President Rahmon said.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their interest in continuing and expanding constructive cooperation.
