Tajik-Russian Slavic University to Launch New Faculty of Journalism and Media Communications
Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: The Tajik-Russian Slavic University (TRSU) will launch a new Faculty of Journalism and Media Communications at the beginning of the 2026–2027 academic year, marking a significant step in expanding journalism education in Tajikistan.
The announcement was made by TRSU Rector Alexey Zolotukhin during a press conference held on July 27, where he briefed local and international media representatives on the university’s latest developments.
According to the rector, the university has not previously had a standalone faculty dedicated to journalism. The decision to establish the new faculty reflects the growing importance of mass media in modern society, where it is widely recognized as the “fourth estate” for its role in informing the public and promoting accountability.
Zolotukhin emphasized that the university has sufficient academic expertise and institutional capacity to support the establishment of the independent Faculty of Journalism and Media Communications, with the necessary infrastructure and educational resources already in place.
He said the new faculty will focus on training highly qualified professionals for the media sector while expanding academic programs in journalism, digital communications, media and culture, and related disciplines. The faculty will also promote research and creative projects aimed at advancing the field of media studies.
The establishment of the faculty is expected to strengthen the university’s academic structure, enhance the scientific and educational capacity of its departments, improve the quality of teaching, and create broader opportunities for preparing specialists in journalism, media communications, and intercultural cooperation.
