Tajikistan and Mongolia Agree to Expand Bilateral Cooperation Across Key Sectors

Ulaanbaatar, The Gulf Observer: President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh held expanded bilateral talks on Monday, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening political, economic and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

The discussions began with a one-on-one meeting between the two leaders before continuing in an expanded format with the participation of official delegations.

At the outset of the talks, President Rahmon expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Mongolian side and voiced confidence that the outcomes of the meeting would provide fresh momentum to the further expansion of mutually beneficial bilateral relations.

The two leaders welcomed the steady development of political ties and underscored the importance of enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation as an effective mechanism for strengthening mutual trust and political dialogue.

During the negotiations, particular attention was devoted to expanding cooperation in priority sectors, including energy, construction and infrastructure development, agriculture and livestock farming. The two sides also discussed increasing exports of high-quality, environmentally friendly Tajik fruit and vegetable products to the Mongolian market.

To facilitate closer economic cooperation, the leaders proposed the establishment of joint working groups on energy, construction and infrastructure development.

The processing industry, particularly light manufacturing and food processing, as well as the extraction and processing of mineral resources, were identified as promising areas for future bilateral collaboration.

The two sides emphasized the importance of ensuring the regular work of the Tajikistan–Mongolia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation to coordinate bilateral initiatives and promote investment.

Humanitarian cooperation was also highlighted as an important pillar of bilateral relations. The leaders welcomed the successful organization of cultural days in each other’s countries and stressed the need to further strengthen cultural exchanges.

They also agreed to expand direct cooperation between universities, scientific research institutes, academies, think tanks and other specialized institutions to enhance educational and research partnerships.

The presidents noted the significant potential for collaboration in tourism, youth affairs and sports, identifying these sectors as new avenues for strengthening people-to-people ties.

President Rahmon expressed appreciation to Mongolia for supporting Tajikistan’s initiative to proclaim 2027–2036 as the “Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations,” as well as for backing the country’s global initiatives, particularly those related to water resources and climate issues.

The leaders also underscored the importance of further enhancing cooperation within the framework of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and exchanged views on a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The talks reaffirmed the shared commitment of Tajikistan and Mongolia to deepening their comprehensive partnership and expanding cooperation across political, economic, cultural and multilateral platforms.
