Trump Praises Pakistan’s Role in Peace Efforts

Trump

Washington, The Gulf Observer: Donald Trump has once again commended Pakistan’s role in facilitating peace efforts, expressing “great respect” for the country and describing its contributions as “terrific” amid ongoing tensions involving Iran.

In an interview with Fox News, the US president said Pakistan has played a constructive role in promoting dialogue and would remain engaged in efforts aimed at de-escalation.

“Great respect for Pakistan… they’ve been terrific. They’ve really tried, and they’ll stay involved,” Donald Trump stated.

Addressing the possibility of negotiations, he indicated that Iran could initiate contact with the United States if it seeks to end hostilities. “If they want to talk, they can come to us, or they can call us… we have nice, secure lines,” he said, adding that Washington is not inclined to dispatch officials for lengthy overseas travel to initiate talks.

The US president also reiterated Washington’s stance on nuclear issues, emphasizing that any potential agreement would require Iran to forgo nuclear weapons. “They cannot have a nuclear weapon. Otherwise, there’s no reason to meet,” he said.

A day earlier, Donald Trump had also praised Pakistan’s leadership for its diplomatic efforts, specifically acknowledging Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir for their role in facilitating dialogue with Iran despite pauses in the diplomatic process.

“I think Pakistan is terrific. The field marshal is fantastic. I think the prime minister of Pakistan is great… they would like to see something happen,” he remarked.

The comments underscore Pakistan’s continuing role as a key intermediary in regional diplomacy, particularly in efforts aimed at easing tensions and promoting negotiations in the Middle East.
