Turkmenistan’s National Leader Meets World Bank Delegation to Discuss Transport Cooperation

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, met on Friday with a high-level delegation from the World Bank. The delegation included Antonella Bassani, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia; Tatiana Proskuryakova, World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia; and Vibke Schloemer, IFC Regional Director for Central Asia and Türkiye.
Discussions focused on strengthening international Trans-Caspian transport links and optimizing the effective use of existing transit infrastructure. Berdimuhamedov highlighted the strategic importance of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport in facilitating connectivity between Europe and Asia, underlining its significant potential for expanding transit capacities, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.
The parties also explored future cooperation prospects between Turkmenistan and the World Bank, particularly in projects aimed at enhancing transport corridors such as the North-South and East-West routes. These initiatives align with Turkmenistan’s broader economic development strategy, which prioritizes infrastructure expansion and regional connectivity.
Expressing confidence in the continued success of mutually beneficial collaboration, Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to constructive engagement with international financial institutions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides exchanged well wishes and confirmed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation in the future.
