Uzbekistan to Host Asian Women’s Forum in Collaboration with UN Women
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, unveiled an ambitious initiative to convene the Asian Women’s Forum in Uzbekistan in 2024. This landmark event aims to harness the creative potential of women leaders from across the region, fostering an exchange of experiences and strategies to enhance their participation in state and public administration, as well as the economy.
Organized in collaboration with UN Women, the Asian Women’s Forum is scheduled to take place in the historic city of Samarkand from May 13 to 14, 2024. Participants will engage in discussions centered around key themes such as women’s involvement in scientific, educational, and innovative endeavors, poverty alleviation through expanded opportunities in the global economy, leveraging digital technologies, and fostering entrepreneurship.
To ensure the seamless execution of the event, an Organizing Committee for the Asian Women’s Forum has been established in the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. During a committee meeting, chaired by Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva, the significance of women’s participation in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was underscored. Emphasis was placed on addressing various issues, including eradicating all forms of violence against women, ensuring equitable and safe working conditions, and combating discrimination in the workplace.
Furthermore, the forum will delve into the practical implementation of decisions made during the 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. It will also explore the role of parliaments in advancing women’s economic opportunities within business and society, as well as the contributions of regional non-governmental organizations in safeguarding women’s rights and interests.
Discussions during the committee meeting encompassed organizational matters, the forum’s agenda and thematic content, and arrangements for bilateral engagements with foreign delegations. The Asian Women’s Forum is poised to serve as a significant platform for fostering dialogue, sharing best practices, and catalyzing collective action to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment across the Asian region.
