WHO Experts Visit Turkmenistan to Bolster Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance
Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: A team of specialists from the European Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) recently concluded a consultative and technical visit to Turkmenistan, aimed at enhancing the country’s national laboratory capacity for the surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), according to a report by IIC.
The mission, organized by the WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan with the support of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, involved comprehensive assessments and consultations with local experts. During their visit, the WHO representatives conducted site visits to AMR surveillance laboratories and engaged in meetings and seminars with relevant specialists.
Marina Suhorukova, a consultant from WHO/Europe, provided key recommendations for the development of National Guidelines for AMR Laboratory Surveillance. These guidelines are expected to serve as a crucial tool in bolstering Turkmenistan’s efforts to monitor and combat antimicrobial resistance effectively.
The visit underscores WHO’s ongoing commitment to supporting Turkmenistan in its public health initiatives, particularly in addressing the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance, which remains a significant concern for global health security.
