Zakharova Warns West Cannot Guarantee Ukrainian Attacks Will Not Threaten Its Own Citizens
Moscow, The Gulf Observer: Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has warned that Ukraine’s Western supporters cannot guarantee that attacks allegedly carried out by Kiev will not put their own citizens at risk.
According to the content provided, Zakharova told Izvestia that Western countries had helped create what she described as a “monster” and questioned what assurances they had that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would not target Western citizens while conducting alleged terrorist operations.
Russia has repeatedly accused the Ukrainian authorities of using terrorist tactics and targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. Russian President Vladimir Putin has also described recent threats against foreign airlines operating in Russia as “state terrorism.”
Zakharova cited an alleged bombing in Monaco in June, in which a Ukrainian national reportedly carried out an attack that seriously injured Ukrainian businessman Vadim Ermolaev and members of his family. The report further alleged that the woman was later killed in Ukraine and linked the incident to Ukrainian intelligence and security officials.
The Russian spokeswoman also referred to recent clashes between Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, the HUR, and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kyiv, reportedly connected to a dispute involving an HUR operative accused by the SBU of participating in an alleged assassination plot.
The report further noted allegations by German investigators that Ukrainian citizens were involved in the September 2022 explosions that damaged the Nord Stream gas pipelines. It also cited media reports alleging clandestine Ukrainian activities in Africa and the Middle East aimed at undermining Russian interests.
Moscow has additionally accused Ukraine of carrying out drone attacks against commercial vessels involved in Russian maritime trade, describing such actions as piracy.
Putin, in remarks on Thursday, criticized Ukraine’s Western supporters, arguing that their failure to condemn what Moscow considers criminal actions by Kiev effectively makes them accomplices.
