Global Mayors Dialogue on Urban Governance and Sustainable Development Scheduled in Hangzhou

Hangzhou, The Gulf Observer: The Global Mayors Dialogue, an international forum dedicated to urban governance and sustainable development, is set to take place in Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang Province, on Wednesday.

Mayors and representatives from 24 cities across 15 countries and regions, along with diplomatic envoys to China and domestic officials, will gather to exchange experiences in urban governance and explore innovative solutions for sustainable development.

As key hubs of economic, cultural, and technological progress, cities around the world are increasingly at the forefront of governance and sustainability initiatives. The Global Mayors Dialogue aims to showcase these efforts and offer practical insights for the future of urban development.

Hangzhou, a city known for its cultural and historical significance, plays a prominent role in the forum. Home to three UNESCO World Heritage sites—the West Lake Cultural Landscape, the Grand Canal, and the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City—Hangzhou is recognized for its cultural heritage, thriving digital economy, and sound business environment. The city has also fostered international ties, with 31 sister cities and friendly relations with 42 foreign cities.

The forum will highlight the achievements of cities in China and abroad, focusing on areas such as innovative governance systems, digital economic growth, environmental protection, and cultural preservation. Participants will engage in discussions aimed at enhancing urban governance and driving sustainable urban development globally.

Two parallel sub-forums will be held, addressing key themes: “Integration of Cities and Digital Reality” and “Cities and Green Development.” Experts and city representatives will delve into the challenges and opportunities presented by digital transformation and ecological sustainability in urban centers.

The Global Mayors Dialogue underscores the importance of collaboration in addressing the complex challenges faced by cities worldwide, providing a platform for exchanging best practices and fostering international partnerships.
