More than 600kg banned tobacco seized at a port in Qatar

Doha, The Gulf Observer: The Maritime Customs Department at Hamad Port thwarted an attempt to smuggle over 600 kilos of prohibited tobacco into Qatar.

In several photos shared on social media, Customs stated that the contraband was found hidden in a shipment of kitchenware. The total weight of the seized substance reached 696.74 kg.

Last week, Hamad Port Customs also thwarted a smuggling attempt which included tobacco substances and a huge quantity of cigarette cartons hidden among tea shipments. The total weight of the seized tobacco was 3,250 kilograms. On the otherhand, the huge quantity of cigarettes were found stashed in a shipment of tea to evade customs duties and tax. Its total number reached 700,000.

Customs officers are provided with all means of support including the latest devices and continuous training to read the body language of passengers and to be aware of the latest methods followed by smugglers.
