Doha Announces Gaza Ceasefire and Prisoner Exchange Agreement

Doha, The Gulf Observer: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, announced on Wednesday that joint mediation efforts by the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the United States have successfully secured a ceasefire and prisoner swap agreement between the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel.
Speaking at a press conference, His Excellency confirmed that the agreement will take effect on Sunday, January 19, 2025. As part of the deal, Hamas will release 33 hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Both parties have agreed to continue negotiations tonight to finalize the implementation details.
HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani extended his gratitude to the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States for their pivotal roles in advancing the negotiations. He further emphasized the commitment of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States to ensuring the successful implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
The development is seen as a significant step towards de-escalation and fostering stability in the region.
