Beijing, The Gulf Observer: On Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah in Beijing, where they discussed ways to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and strategic coordination between the two nations.
During the talks, President Xi emphasized the longstanding diplomatic ties between China and Brunei, which have spanned over 30 years. He highlighted the steady deepening of political mutual trust, alignment of development strategies, and the significant achievements in practical cooperation across various sectors.
Xi noted that both countries have maintained positive coordination in international and regional affairs, setting an example of harmonious relations between nations of different sizes, characterized by equality and mutual benefit. These efforts have contributed to regional peace, stability, and prosperity, he added.
The Chinese President expressed that the joint building of a China-Brunei community with a shared future aligns with current global trends and serves the fundamental interests of both countries. He called for further strengthening of cooperation in areas such as the Belt and Road Initiative and Brunei’s Wawasan 2035 development plan.
Xi encouraged both nations to work together on advancing key projects, such as the Guangxi-Brunei Economic Corridor and the Hengyi Petrochemical project. He also proposed that China support Brunei’s development in digital economy, artificial intelligence, and new energy sectors, which would contribute to the country’s broader goals of economic diversification.
China’s commitment to enhancing agricultural ties was also discussed. Xi expressed China’s support for hybrid rice research cooperation and encouraged Brunei to leverage international platforms like the China International Import Expo and China-ASEAN Expo to boost the export of quality agricultural and fishery products to China.
Additionally, President Xi underlined the importance of expanding cooperation in education, culture, tourism, and sports between the two nations, while promoting a shared commitment to a fair and inclusive global order.
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah commended China’s remarkable economic achievements and its efforts in global peace, stability, and development. He expressed gratitude for China’s support of Brunei’s economic diversification strategy and highlighted the significant benefits of bilateral cooperation for the people of Brunei.
The Sultan reiterated Brunei’s firm stance on the one-China policy and expressed his country’s readiness to strengthen the strategic cooperative partnership with China. He underscored the importance of advancing trade, agriculture, fishery, energy, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Following the talks, both leaders jointly witnessed the signing of several important agreements on judicial cooperation, Belt and Road initiatives, and collaborations across economic, trade, and media sectors.
