Saudi Crown Prince Reaffirms Commitment to Political Resolution in Ukraine During Call with Putin

Jeddah, The Gulf Observer: Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to facilitating dialogue and supporting all efforts aimed at achieving a political solution to the Ukraine crisis during a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday.

During the call, the two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation and explored avenues to enhance relations. They also deliberated on ongoing efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict, underscoring the importance of diplomatic initiatives.

President Putin expressed appreciation for the Kingdom’s constructive role and its mediation efforts in fostering dialogue to achieve peace.

The phone call came in the wake of high-level discussions held in Jeddah on Tuesday between U.S. and Ukrainian delegations. The meeting, convened under the directive of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, sought to advance diplomatic efforts toward de-escalation in Ukraine.

According to a joint statement issued after the talks, Ukraine expressed its support for a U.S. proposal to implement a 30-day ceasefire in the conflict. In response, Washington agreed to lift its suspension of military aid and intelligence sharing with Kyiv immediately, contingent on Russia’s compliance with the ceasefire agreement.

The U.S. Department of State described the Jeddah discussions as a significant step toward peace in Ukraine, emphasizing the Kingdom’s role in facilitating dialogue and promoting stability in the region.
