President of Uzbekistan Meets with Slovenian National Assembly Speaker to Strengthen Interparliamentary Cooperation

Ljubljana, The Gulf Observer: As part of his official visit to the Republic of Slovenia, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a meeting with the President of the National Assembly of Slovenia, Urška Klakočar Zupančič.

The meeting served as a platform for substantive discussions aimed at further advancing the multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Slovenia, particularly in the parliamentary sphere. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the growing momentum of interparliamentary exchanges in recent years.

It was recalled that in April of this year, Predrag Baković, Chair of the Committee of the National Assembly of Slovenia, participated in the 150th anniversary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Tashkent. Additionally, friendship groups have been successfully established in the parliaments of both countries, contributing to the sustained dialogue between legislative bodies.

The parties emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation through specialized parliamentary committees, which play a vital role in supporting and accelerating joint initiatives across various sectors. Moreover, the significance of parliamentary backing for humanitarian cooperation was underscored, with particular focus on organizing cultural and film days, exhibitions, and fostering academic exchanges between higher education institutions in both countries.

Discussions also addressed enhanced coordination and mutual support within international parliamentary organizations. In this regard, the proposal to convene the first Uzbekistan–Slovenia Interparliamentary Forum in the historic city of Samarkand was welcomed. The forum is envisioned to include the participation of parliamentarians and members of the expert community from both nations.

As a key outcome of the meeting, an agreement was reached to adopt a joint roadmap for future cooperation between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Slovenia, setting a clear path for continued dialogue and mutual development.

The visit marks a significant step in elevating the Uzbekistan–Slovenia partnership and reflects the shared commitment to deepening bilateral ties across all levels.
