Bukhara, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, First Lady Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva and their family members visited the historic Ark Fortress in Bukhara on August 24.

The Ark Fortress is one of Bukhara’s prominent historical and architectural landmarks. It was originally constructed in the 4th century BCE, while its present appearance was largely shaped during the 17th and 18th centuries.

The fortress served as the winter residence of the rulers of Bukhara in the early 20th century. It currently occupies an area of approximately four hectares.

A significant part of the historic fortress was destroyed in 1920. Since 1947, the Bukhara State Museum-Reserve has operated within the fortress, preserving and showcasing the city’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

The visit provided the Azerbaijani and Uzbek leaders and their families an opportunity to explore one of Bukhara’s most significant heritage sites.
