PAL Indonesia Secures Seven Strategic Defense Partnerships at Indo Defence Expo 2025

Surabaya, The Gulf Observer: PT PAL Indonesia, the state-owned shipbuilder, formalized seven strategic partnerships spanning ship platform development, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of weapon systems, and submarine procurement at the Indo Defence Expo and Forum 2025, held in Jakarta.
Marketing Director Wiyono Komodjojo announced on Saturday that the agreements include a high-profile collaboration with Turkish shipyard TAIS, aimed at developing both combatant and non-combatant naval platforms. “The partnership will utilize an offset scheme to ensure domestic execution and capacity building,” he noted.
In addition, PAL signed a cooperation agreement with Swedish defense company Bofors for MRO services involving 40 mm and 57 mm caliber weapon systems. Another landmark agreement was reached with France’s Naval Group for the acquisition of Scorpene Evolved submarines and frigates, further strengthening Indonesia’s undersea warfare capabilities.
A memorandum of understanding was also inked with global satellite communications firm Iridium, focused on establishing a joint venture for integrated logistics support (ILS), enhancing PAL’s service and support portfolio.
“These collaborations reflect strong international synergy in reinforcing the defense industry while simultaneously strengthening Indonesia’s diplomatic and industrial ties,” Komodjojo said. He added that PAL’s exhibit at the forum attracted considerable interest from international defense attachés.
PAL’s current product offerings include hospital ships and frigates. The company also showcased its latest innovations, such as a Maritime Combat Management System (CMS) for warships and a domestically developed unmanned autonomous submarine, which has already drawn global interest for potential procurement and sea trials.
Komodjojo emphasized that PAL’s participation at the Indo Defence Expo demonstrates its steadfast commitment to the development of the national defense sector and broader industrial ecosystem.
“Our long-term vision is to empower national industries, reduce dependency on foreign technologies, and advance Indonesia’s self-reliance in both defense technologies and human resources,” he affirmed.
