Azerbaijani and Uzbek Parliamentary Speakers Discuss Strengthening Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in Awaza

Awaza, The Gulf Observer: Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis, during her working visit to Awaza, Turkmenistan. The meeting underscored the strong and steadily advancing relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, marked by growing inter-parliamentary cooperation and the steadfast support of both countries’ Heads of State.

Both sides hailed the exceptional role of Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev in propelling bilateral relations to a new and dynamic stage of development. They emphasized that the will and vision of the two leaders have paved the way for multifaceted cooperation in political, economic, cultural, and parliamentary fields.

Speaker Gafarova and Chairperson Narbayeva commended the growing engagement between the legislative bodies of both nations, citing frequent reciprocal visits, regular interactions on the sidelines of international events, and the successful holding of the First Uzbekistan–Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Forum in July 2025. Gafarova highlighted her multiple visits to Uzbekistan as a testament to the depth of parliamentary dialogue.

A key focus of the meeting was the recently signed Practical Action Plan to Develop Inter-Parliamentary Co-operation for 2025–2026 and the Regulations of the Inter-Parliamentary Co-operation Commission between the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan. Both leaders expressed confidence that these frameworks will serve as important tools for institutionalizing cooperation and enhancing legislative exchanges.

In addition to parliamentary matters, the two speakers exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan across all levels.
