President of Nigeria Buhari departs to attend UNGA 77 in New York

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari departed Abuja on Sunday for New York.

Abuja, The Gulf Observer: Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari departed Abuja on Sunday for New York, where he will join other world leaders for the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

This is Buhari’s final engagement at the Assembly as Head of State, as he is scheduled to leave office after Nigeria’s February elections.

The 79-year-old is scheduled to deliver his national statement on the second day of the General Debates on September 21.

During his stay in New York, President Buhari will also participate in other high-level meetings and side events, including the Nigeria International Economic Partnership Forum (NIEPF), convened by Nigeria in partnership with the Business Council for International Understanding.

He is also scheduled to hold strategic bilateral meetings with world leaders, investors and heads of multinational organizations.

President Buhari has been accompanied on his trip by First Lady Aisha Buhari, governors, ministers and other top government officials.

The President is expected back in the country on September 26.
