East Java to Build Marsinah National Hero Museum in Nganjuk

Nganjuk, The Gulf Observer: East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has announced the construction of the Marsinah National Hero Museum in Nganjuk District, aimed at educating younger generations about the values of courage, justice, and integrity embodied by Marsinah, a labor activist honored as a national hero of Indonesia.
Governor Khofifah said the museum would go beyond being a physical structure, serving instead as a space to instill moral and social values inspired by Marsinah’s life and struggle.
“What we are building is not just a physical structure, but a space of values. Here, young people can learn about courage, honesty, and standing for justice, as exemplified by Marsinah,” she said in a statement on Sunday.
She emphasized that the museum, along with an accompanying shelter house, would function as a center for preserving and disseminating Marsinah’s legacy, ensuring her ideals continue to resonate in contemporary society.
“Respect for heroes does not end at the grave. It must continue by carrying forward the values of their struggle into today’s life,” the governor added.
On Saturday, Governor Khofifah joined National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in visiting Marsinah’s grave in Nganjuk, where they laid the first stone for the museum and scattered flowers as a mark of tribute. The officials also met with Marsinah’s family at her former residence.
General Listyo underscored the importance of remembering Marsinah’s long and arduous struggle for workers’ rights. He noted that the museum would display a collection of her personal belongings, including letters, notes to her sibling, diary entries, pens, clothing, and other documents, providing insight into her life as a labor activist.
He stressed that preserving Marsinah’s spirit of defending labor rights is essential to inspire younger generations of workers, encouraging them to continue the collective struggle for justice, dignity, and fairness in the workplace.
