Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman will take part in the International Tourism Fair “FITUR 2026,” which is set to open next Wednesday in Madrid, Spain, as part of its efforts to promote sustainable tourism and strengthen its presence in global tourism markets.

Oman’s participation aims to highlight global developments in the tourism sector, explore sustainable and innovative tourism concepts, and leverage the latest trends and technologies to support the sustainable development of the tourism industry. The Omani delegation will include representatives from tourism institutions, tourism companies, hotel establishments, and strategic partners in the sector.

According to officials, the participation seeks to showcase the latest developments in Oman’s tourism industry, promote local destinations and tourism products, and enhance cooperation with Spanish and international tourism companies in order to increase tourist inflows to the Sultanate.

The event is also expected to witness the announcement of new partnerships and promotional programs to be implemented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in cooperation with its strategic partners.

Haitham Mohammed Al Ghassani, Director-General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, said Oman’s participation in FITUR 2026 comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to develop the Sultanate’s diverse tourism assets. He noted that these efforts focus on benefiting from international expertise, expanding Oman’s footprint in global tourism markets, and building strategic partnerships that enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of the tourism sector.

Al Ghassani added that FITUR is distinguished by the wide range of tourism fields it covers, as well as by its focus on innovative tourism technologies that open new opportunities in line with modern tourism trends. He also noted that the exhibition provides in-depth market studies and analyses that support future plans to target and attract new tourism markets.

He further pointed out that Oman is an attractive destination for Spanish tourists, with visitor numbers from Spain reaching approximately 10,749 between January and November 2025. Al Ghassani highlighted Madrid’s role as a major aviation hub connecting Europe and Latin America, accounting for 16.5 percent of air traffic, making Spanish tourism companies a key gateway for attracting visitors from Latin America to the Sultanate.
