Tajik President Emomali Rahmon Offers Condolences Following Reported Death of Iran’s Supreme Leader

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Embassy in Dushanbe on March 1 published a message of condolence from Tajik President Emomali Rahmon following the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
In a letter addressed to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, President Rahmon said he received the news of Khamenei’s passing, along with the deaths of several Iranian government officials, “with deep sorrow.”
“I extend my condolences to Your Excellency and the noble people of Iran on this great loss,” Rahmon stated in the message. He emphasized the enduring role of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in fostering comprehensive and constructive relations between Tajikistan and Iran, as well as in strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
“In these days of mourning, I express the solidarity of the people of Tajikistan with the friendly and brotherly nation of Iran,” the letter read. Rahmon also prayed for the repose of the souls of those who perished and wished their families patience and resilience in what he described as a terrible tragedy.
According to the embassy’s statement, the Tajik leader underscored Khamenei’s contribution to enhancing bilateral ties between Dushanbe and Tehran. As of publication, the press service of the President of Tajikistan had not released the condolence message on its official website.
Earlier the same day, Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a separate statement expressing “deep concern over the unprecedented escalation of the situation in the Middle East.” The ministry reiterated that all disputes and disagreements must be resolved exclusively through negotiations within the framework of international law and the provisions of the UN Charter.
“The Republic of Tajikistan once again emphasizes the need for effective and urgent measures aimed at preventing further escalation and averting a tragic development of the situation,” the statement said.
Iranian state media reported that Ali Khamenei was killed on the morning of March 1, a day after Israel and the United States allegedly carried out a missile strike on his residence in Tehran. According to Iranian sources, several of his family members were also killed in the attack.
Reports further indicated that a number of senior military officials died in the strike, including Ali Shamkhani, Mohammad Pakpour, Aziz Nasirzadeh, and Abdolrahim Mousavi. Independent confirmation of these reports was not immediately available.
