Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Tô Lâm, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, has called for the comprehensive, long-term and forward-looking development of 108 Military Central Hospital, urging it to evolve into a model healthcare institution and a leading medical centre in Vietnam and across the region.

He made the remarks while addressing a ceremony in Hanoi marking the hospital’s 75th founding anniversary (April 1, 1951–2026), along with the presentation of the prestigious Hồ Chí Minh Order (second conferment).

Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Lê Hữu Song, Director of the hospital, highlighted that over the past 75 years, the institution has grown into a strategic, top-tier referral hospital for the armed forces, holding special national classification status and serving as one of Vietnam’s foremost centres for advanced and specialised medicine.

The hospital has consistently demonstrated innovation and maintained its pioneering role in Vietnam’s military medical sector, achieving stable and sustainable growth.

Expressing satisfaction with its progress, General Secretary Tô Lâm noted that the hospital has successfully fulfilled its critical mission of providing healthcare services to senior Party, State and military leaders, as well as high-ranking officials from Laos and Cambodia.

He commended the hospital’s medical staff for mastering advanced techniques, particularly in tissue and organ transplantation. The hospital has emerged as one of the country’s largest transplant centres and a leading liver transplant facility, contributing significantly to the global recognition of Vietnamese medicine.

Beyond clinical services, the hospital has also established itself as a key hub for medical training and scientific research, supported by a highly qualified team of professors, doctors and scientists. It has actively expanded international cooperation and embraced modern medical advancements.

The Party chief further praised the hospital’s effective implementation of digital transformation, including the adoption of hospital-wide electronic medical records, as part of its transition towards a smart and modern healthcare model aimed at improving governance and patient care quality.

Looking ahead, Tô Lâm stressed that higher standards would be required for public healthcare in the country’s new development phase. He urged the hospital to continue enhancing professional standards across all disciplines, maintain a patient-centred approach, and consider treatment outcomes as the ultimate measure of its reputation.

He also called for stronger integration of treatment with scientific research, training and technology transfer, alongside a clear roadmap for digital transformation. Emphasis was placed on increased investment in applied research and the promotion of grassroots innovation.

The Party leader further underscored the need for long-term, specialised training for medical personnel and the expansion of global partnerships to facilitate knowledge exchange and the adoption of advanced, high-tech medical practices aligned with international standards.

Additionally, he urged the hospital to accelerate administrative reforms, simplify procedures, and deepen the application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in both management and healthcare services.

The importance of fostering a humane, professional and supportive working environment was also highlighted, with a focus on strengthening unity, responsibility, and patient trust and satisfaction.

Tô Lâm emphasised that the hospital should continue upholding its core values—Compassion, Intellect and Credibility—anchored in strong medical ethics, driven by innovation, and guided by trust, to become a model institution serving senior officials, military personnel and the public, while contributing to the advancement of Vietnam’s healthcare sector.

At the ceremony, the General Secretary formally presented the Hồ Chí Minh Order (second class) to the hospital in recognition of its outstanding contributions to the nation’s revolutionary cause.
