Uzbekistan, UN Tourism Explore Expanded Strategic Partnership to Boost Sustainable Tourism Growth

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, on April 1 received Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, Secretary-General of UN Tourism, to discuss the expansion of long-term and multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN’s specialized tourism agency.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized strengthening collaboration across key areas aimed at enhancing Uzbekistan’s rapidly evolving tourism sector. The Secretary-General commended Uzbekistan’s comprehensive reforms, highlighting the country’s ongoing efforts to modernize tourism infrastructure and diversify travel experiences.
Particular appreciation was expressed for the expansion of air connectivity, the establishment of new museums across the country, and the organization of major cultural events that continue to elevate Uzbekistan’s global tourism profile.
The discussions also underscored mutual interest in advancing joint initiatives, including the development of an improved international legal framework for tourism, implementation of collaborative projects, and the expansion of expert and technical cooperation.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening human capital in the sector, with a focus on training highly qualified professionals to meet the growing demands of the tourism industry.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to further deepen strategic partnership, positioning Uzbekistan as a key destination in the global tourism landscape while aligning with international standards and sustainable development goals.
