Islamabad, The Gulf Obsrve: The Embassy of Romania in Pakistan has marked the first anniversary of the country’s inaugural opera course, a landmark cultural initiative launched in collaboration with the Pakistan National Council of the Arts in Islamabad.

Introduced in April 2025, the program represents a pioneering effort to promote and institutionalize the art of opera in Pakistan. Conducted on a weekly basis every Wednesday and Friday, the course is led by renowned Romanian soprano Georgiana Costea-Glugă, whose expertise has played a central role in shaping the initiative’s success.

The program aims to enhance cultural dialogue between Romania and Pakistan while providing emerging Pakistani artists with an opportunity to explore the classical art form of opera. Through structured training and artistic mentorship, the initiative underscores the importance of music and culture in fostering international understanding and creative collaboration.

Romania’s rich operatic heritage, supported by esteemed institutions such as the Romanian National Opera and the National Opera of Cluj-Napoca, serves as a strong foundation for this cultural outreach. The initiative reflects Romania’s broader commitment to cultural diplomacy and its efforts to share artistic excellence on a global stage.

Over the past year, the course has cultivated a growing community of young music enthusiasts in Pakistan, offering them a unique platform to engage with opera and develop their artistic skills. It also highlights the expanding scope of Romania–Pakistan bilateral relations, particularly in the domains of education, culture, and institutional cooperation.

The Embassy of Romania in Islamabad has extended an open invitation to aspiring artists and music lovers to participate in the ongoing courses, contributing to the development of a vibrant and dynamic cultural landscape in Pakistan.
