Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation with Donald Trump on Sunday, during which the two leaders discussed the recent shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, according to a statement from Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.

During the call, President Erdoğan expressed deep concern over the incident, describing it as a “heinous act against democracy and freedom of the press.” He conveyed his solidarity and extended best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured security officer.

The Turkish leader underscored the importance of safeguarding democratic institutions and ensuring the protection of media freedom, while reaffirming Türkiye’s condemnation of acts of violence targeting such values.
