Algerian Railways

Algiers, The Gulf Observer: Algerian National Railways (SNTF) has launched an international tender for the supply of up to 124 diesel-electric locomotives for its 1,435mm-gauge rail network, as part of efforts to strengthen freight, passenger and shunting operations across the country.

The tender includes a firm order for 85 locomotives, comprising 60 high-power freight locomotives and 25 low-power locomotives intended for shunting duties.

Under the contract, the successful bidder will also be required to provide spare parts, as well as specialized tools and equipment necessary for the maintenance of the locomotive fleet.

In addition to the firm order, SNTF has included an option for the procurement of 39 high-power passenger locomotives, along with associated spare parts.

According to the tender requirements, bidders must submit at least two references from railway operators confirming the satisfactory delivery of similar locomotives within the past 10 years. The railway operator is seeking to ensure that prospective suppliers have proven technical expertise and experience in delivering comparable rolling stock projects.

To demonstrate financial capability, bidders are also required to provide certified financial statements covering their three strongest financial years during the last five-year period.

The deadline for bid submissions is 90 days from the publication date of the tender notice. Technical and financial proposals must be submitted by 12:00 noon on the final day, after which SNTF will publicly open the bids at 1:30 p.m. at its headquarters in Algiers.

The procurement is expected to support the modernization and expansion of Algeria’s rail transport capacity, particularly in freight operations and network efficiency.
