Ethiopia, Pakistan Agree to Strengthen Parliamentary Ties, Expand Bilateral Cooperation

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Ethiopia and Pakistan have agreed to forge stronger parliamentary relations and deepen cooperation across a range of sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, aviation, and culture, during high-level talks held in Islamabad.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the growing bilateral relationship, explored new avenues of cooperation, and reaffirmed their commitment to elevating ties between the two countries to a higher level.
Ambassador Dr. Oumer highlighted the deep-rooted and longstanding relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan, underscoring their shared history, cultural affinities, and common values. He noted Ethiopia’s strategic importance as the host of the African Union and a key gateway to Africa, stating that Pakistan could utilize its partnership with Ethiopia to expand its engagement and presence across the African continent.
Chairman Gilani praised Ethiopia’s rapid economic transformation, sustained growth, and ongoing domestic reform agenda. He emphasized the importance of strengthening people-to-people contacts through cultural exchanges and religious tourism, describing them as essential pillars for fostering closer bilateral relations.
The Senate Chairman also highlighted Pakistan’s agricultural potential and stressed the importance of exchanging knowledge, expertise, and technical cooperation to support shared development objectives and prosperity across the Global South.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to establish parliamentary friendship groups and facilitate exchanges of parliamentary delegations as part of efforts to strengthen institutional cooperation and further enhance diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
