President Ilham Aliyev, U.S. Senator Steve Daines Discuss Strategic Partnership and Regional Peace

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday received Steve Daines, Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation, to discuss the growing strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States, regional peace efforts, and transport connectivity.

During the meeting, President Aliyev said that bilateral relations based on cooperation and mutual trust have developed successfully following the second election of U.S. President Donald Trump. He noted that Azerbaijan–U.S. ties have been elevated to the level of a strategic partnership, describing the development as significant for both countries and the wider region.

The Azerbaijani President recalled the visit of U.S. Vice President JD Vance to Azerbaijan and highlighted the importance of the signing of the Charter on Strategic Partnership between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America, describing it as a key milestone in expanding bilateral cooperation.

President Aliyev also praised his personal relations with President Donald Trump and acknowledged his role in advancing the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Recalling the significant developments that have taken place since Senator Daines’ previous visit to Azerbaijan, President Aliyev thanked the U.S. lawmaker for his continued efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries.

Senator Daines welcomed the recent progress in Azerbaijan–U.S. relations and described President Aliyev’s visit to Washington in August last year as an important milestone. He also commended Azerbaijan’s growing geopolitical importance under President Aliyev’s leadership.

The U.S. Senator expressed appreciation for President Aliyev’s leadership in promoting the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and advancing the regional peace agenda.

The two sides also underscored the strategic importance of the TRIPP Corridor in enhancing regional transport connectivity and exchanged views on expanding dialogue between Azerbaijan and the U.S. Senate, while exploring future opportunities to deepen bilateral partnership.
