Azerbaijani Parliamentary Delegation Visits TRNC, Holds High-Level Talks on Bilateral Cooperation

Lefkoşa, The Gulf Observer: A delegation from Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament) visited Lefkoşa to participate in events commemorating the anniversary of the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation and held high-level meetings with senior officials of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The visit coincided with commemorative events marking the Cyprus Peace Operation, carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces in 1974. During the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation met with Ziya Öztürkler, Speaker of the Assembly of the TRNC, and Ünal Üstel, Prime Minister of the TRNC.
The delegation included Javanshir Feyziyev, Head of the Working Group on Azerbaijan–TRNC Inter-Parliamentary Relations; Ahliman Amiraslanov, Head of the Working Group on Azerbaijan–Türkiye Inter-Parliamentary Relations; Arzu Naghiyev, Chairman of the Committee on Defense, Security and Counter-Corruption; Jala Aliyeva, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs; and Members of Parliament Agalar Valiyev and Heydar Asadov.
During the meeting at the TRNC Assembly, both sides emphasized the importance of further strengthening the fraternal ties and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Northern Cyprus.
Speaker Öztürkler expressed appreciation to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova for their continued political and moral support for the Turkish Cypriot people.
In response, Javanshir Feyziyev said relations between Azerbaijan and the TRNC are expanding steadily across various sectors, underpinned by shared history, cultural affinity, and the spirit of brotherhood.
The Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation later met with Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, who recalled his previous visits to Azerbaijan and conveyed his gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Ali Asadov, and Speaker Sahiba Gafarova for their support and warm hospitality.
The discussions focused on unlocking the untapped potential for expanding economic and trade relations between Azerbaijan and the TRNC, while also exploring opportunities to deepen cooperation in higher education, tourism, and healthcare.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing parliamentary dialogue and broadening collaboration across multiple sectors, reflecting the growing partnership and close ties between Azerbaijan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
