Iran in ‘Full-Scale War’ with U.S. on Economic Front, Says President Pezeshkian
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Iran is engaged in a “full-scale war” with the United States, describing the country’s economy and the livelihoods of its citizens as the primary battlefield amid continuing external pressure.
Speaking at a session of the Supreme Judicial Council, President Pezeshkian said the conflict extends far beyond military confrontation, arguing that Iran’s adversaries are increasingly seeking to weaken the country through economic pressure after failing to achieve their objectives through military means.
He warned that sustained economic challenges could undermine public confidence if they lead to widespread dissatisfaction, stressing the need for national unity, coordinated policymaking and close cooperation among all branches of government to effectively manage the current situation.
The president emphasized that decisions on major national issues should enjoy the support of the entire governing system to strengthen both the administration and state institutions during a period of heightened external pressure.
Highlighting the importance of governance and justice, Pezeshkian described the rule of law and the protection of citizens’ rights as fundamental pillars of the Islamic Republic. He said addressing poverty, unemployment and the rising cost of living remains both a governmental and moral responsibility, adding that officials must remain responsive to the economic difficulties faced by ordinary Iranians.
Addressing inflation and rising prices, Pezeshkian attributed the challenges to broader economic conditions and externally imposed restrictions rather than government mismanagement. He stated that despite the pressures, the administration had ensured the uninterrupted supply of essential goods during the recent period, which coincided with the Nowruz holidays and the holy month of Ramadan.
The president also referred to recent negotiations with the United States, saying Iran had defended its national interests without compromising its principles. He maintained that none of the provisions contained in a memorandum of understanding discussed during the talks involved concessions detrimental to the country’s interests.
Reaffirming Iran’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty, Pezeshkian said the country remains prepared to bear the costs of defending its national interests, describing current hardships as challenges that require patience, resilience and national solidarity.
He noted that wartime conditions have complicated coordination among government institutions and stressed the need for capable officials who can make timely decisions without fear of later administrative repercussions.
Pezeshkian also underscored the importance of a unified national decision-making process, stating that the country’s ultimate authority rests with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution. He praised the unprecedented level of cooperation among Iran’s executive, legislative and judicial branches, thanking Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf for their support.
The president added that his administration has remained above political factionalism and continues to receive cooperation from figures across the political spectrum, including former electoral rivals.
Looking ahead, Pezeshkian said the government remains committed to addressing long-standing structural challenges in sectors such as electricity, water, natural gas and the public-sector wage system. While acknowledging that comprehensive reforms would require time, he reaffirmed the administration’s determination to continue pursuing economic and institutional improvements despite ongoing external pressure from the United States and Israel.
Concluding his remarks, the president expressed appreciation to members of the judiciary for their work, describing the administration of justice as one of the most significant responsibilities within Iran’s system of governance.
