Morocco Launches Online Portal for Journalists to Claim Photocopying Royalties
Rabat, The Gulf Observer: Morocco has launched a new online platform enabling professional journalists and newspaper publishers to register for photocopying royalty payments, in a move aimed at strengthening copyright protection and ensuring fair compensation for media professionals.
The Moroccan Office of Copyright and Related Rights (BMDAV) announced that the digital portal will officially become operational on August 1, allowing eligible journalists working in the print media sector, as well as newspaper publishers, to submit applications for royalties generated through the reproduction of their published works.
According to BMDAV, the initiative is designed to modernize the management of copyright and related rights while promoting greater transparency and efficiency in the distribution of remuneration to rights holders. The platform is expected to simplify registration procedures and facilitate access to compensation for the authorized photocopying of protected journalistic content.
The launch forms part of Morocco’s broader efforts to reinforce intellectual property protection and enhance the legal and institutional framework governing the country’s media and publishing sectors. Officials said the digital system reflects the government’s commitment to supporting journalists and publishers by safeguarding their economic rights in an increasingly digital media environment.
BMDAV encouraged all eligible journalists and newspaper publishers to complete their registration through the dedicated online portal once it becomes available, ensuring they can benefit from the royalty distribution mechanism established under Morocco’s copyright regulations.
