King Abdullah II Reviews Jordan’s Energy and Food Security Plans, Calls for Stronger Strategic Preparedness
Amman, The Gulf Observer: His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review Jordan’s plans for strengthening energy and food security, underscoring the need for proactive measures to address the impact of evolving regional and global developments.
The meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace and attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein, focused on government efforts to enhance national resilience by aligning and reinforcing long-term strategies for food and energy security, according to a statement issued by the Royal Court.
During the briefing, the King reviewed measures being implemented by relevant ministries to improve strategic planning and ensure the Kingdom’s preparedness to meet future challenges.
Discussions highlighted the importance of diversifying Jordan’s energy mix and increasing reliance on domestic and renewable energy sources to enhance self-sufficiency while supporting the competitiveness of key economic sectors and essential public services.
King Abdullah directed the government to develop and implement comprehensive plans to strengthen the Kingdom’s strategic energy reserves, improve the readiness of the national energy system, and ensure its long-term sustainability in the face of global economic and geopolitical shifts.
On food security, the King stressed the importance of maintaining adequate strategic reserves of grains and other essential commodities, while improving management mechanisms to guarantee the continuous availability and sustainability of supplies.
He also called for expanding partnerships with the private sector in food storage and transportation to reinforce Jordan’s food security framework and enhance the efficiency of supply chains.
The meeting was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Feisal, Chairman of the National Policies Council, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, along with several ministers and senior government officials.
