Vietnam’s Top Leader Calls for Concrete Action to Build Stronger, Prosperous Nation

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việtnam Central Committee and President Tô Lâm has stressed that the most meaningful tribute to previous generations is the responsibility and concrete action of the present generation to build a stronger, more prosperous and developed Việtnam.
He made the remarks on Tuesday at a meeting with former members of the Politburo and Secretariat of the Party Central Committee from different tenures, as well as members of the 13th-tenure Party Central Committee who are not continuing in the 14th tenure. The event was also held to present Hồ Chí Minh Orders, Independence Orders and Party membership badges on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution on August 19 and the National Day on September 2.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng presented a report on Việtnam’s socio-economic situation and Party building efforts during the first half of 2026, along with key tasks for the second half of the year and the coming period.
Participants shared candid and substantive views, highlighting risks and shortcomings that should not be underestimated and proposing practical measures to strengthen national solidarity, improve Party building and the State apparatus, promote national development and enhance people’s living standards.
General Secretary and President Lâm expressed profound respect and gratitude for the significant contributions of former Party and State leaders. He said that, through different positions and periods, they had contributed to shaping development policies, safeguarding revolutionary achievements, advancing the Đổi Mới (Renewal) process and international integration, and laying important foundations for the country’s current development.
Looking back on the past 81 years, particularly the four decades of the Đổi Mới process, Việt Nam has every reason to be proud of the stature and potential built through the leadership of the Party, the legacy of late President Hồ Chí Minh and the efforts of the Vietnamese people, he said.
From a country devastated by war and subjected to blockade and embargo, Việt Nam has developed into a developing, upper-middle-income country deeply integrated into the international community, while strengthening national defence and security and enhancing its position and influence internationally.
Lâm noted that these achievements were the result of the Party’s leadership and the strength of national unity, as well as the intelligence, efforts and sacrifices of generations of Vietnamese people, including former Party and State leaders.
He stressed that the tasks ahead leave no room for complacency or hesitation. In implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, Việtnam must make a strong shift from policymaking to action, from organisational restructuring to improving operational effectiveness, and from political determination to tangible results that people can see, feel and benefit from.
He called for continued efforts to strengthen the Party’s comprehensive leadership and improve its leadership and governance capacity, while upholding national independence and socialism and maintaining solidarity based on Party principles, the Political Platform, Party Statutes and national interests.
Officials, particularly senior leaders, must set examples, maintain integrity, shoulder responsibility and act for the common good, he stressed.
Lâm also underscored the need to build a streamlined, strong and effective State apparatus, with every task clearly defining its objectives, responsibilities, deadlines, resources and expected outcomes.
He said development should increasingly be driven by productivity, knowledge, science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and high-quality human resources, while ensuring that rapid growth is accompanied by sustainability, resilience and technological mastery, and that Việt Nam continues to improve its position in global value chains.
The Party leader stressed that people must remain at the centre of all policies and that national development must serve their legitimate interests and ensure that they fairly benefit from the country’s achievements.
He called for greater attention to people who rendered services to the nation and intensified efforts to search for, collect and identify the remains of fallen soldiers.
National independence and self-reliance in the new era, he said, must also include strategic autonomy in the economy, technology, data, energy, food, water resources and human resources.
Concluding his remarks, Lâm said the most worthy tribute to previous generations was the responsibility and action of today’s generation, while the greatest responsibility toward future generations was to establish solid foundations and create better conditions for the country’s continued advancement.
At the meeting, General Secretary and President Lâm presented Hồ Chí Minh Orders to five former Politburo members in recognition of their major and particularly outstanding contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and nation. The recipients were former President Lương Cường, former Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee and former Chairman of its Commission for Internal Affairs Phan Đình Trạc, former Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Hòa Bình, and former Secretary of the Hồ Chí Minh City Party Committee Nguyễn Văn Nên.
Party and State leaders also presented first- and second-class Independence Orders to former members of the Party Central Committee in recognition of their outstanding achievements during their service and contributions to socialism building and national defence.
In addition, General Secretary and President Lâm and other Party and State leaders presented 60-year, 45-year, 40-year and 35-year Party membership badges to incumbent and former Party and State leaders.
