Indonesian President Reviews Efforts to Contain Forest and Land Fires in Sumatra, Kalimantan
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has summoned the country’s military and police chiefs to receive an update on government efforts to contain forest and land fires in parts of Sumatra and Kalimantan.
A limited meeting was held Tuesday at President Prabowo’s residence in Hambalang, Bogor District, West Java, with Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the meeting focused on national developments and measures to tackle forest and land fires in affected areas of Sumatra and Kalimantan.
President Prabowo received reports on conditions on the ground, including measures that have already been implemented to contain and control the fires. The government is also strengthening coordination among relevant agencies to ensure a rapid and integrated response while preventing the fires from spreading further.
The meeting was attended by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Deputy National Police Chief Dedi Prasetyo and Jakarta Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri.
National Police Intelligence Chief Yuda Gustawan, Deputy Military Commander Lieutenant General Tandyo Budi Revita, Defense Logistics Agency Chief Yusuf Jauhari and Military Intelligence Assistant Major General Rio Firdianto also participated in the meeting.
State Intelligence Agency Chief M. Herindra and Development Control and Special Investigation Agency Chief Aries Marsudiyanto were also present.
The meeting formed part of a series of high-level discussions chaired by President Prabowo at Hambalang on national priorities. The discussions covered issues including national security, forest and land fires, the Red-and-White Fishing Village programme, state honors and affordable housing.
The housing meeting brought together senior government officials, including Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Infrastructure Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.
Other meetings involved Culture Minister Fadli Zon, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Investment Minister and Danantara CEO Rosan P. Roeslani, Higher Education Minister Brian Yuliarto, and other senior officials and executives.
The series of meetings underscored the government’s focus on strengthening inter-agency coordination and accelerating responses to key national priorities.
