Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid launches new book ‘The Letters’
Dubai, The Gulf Observer: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has launched his new book, “The Letters,” the second volume in the “Lessons from Life” series.
The book opens with a letter addressed to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, marking the first of 26 letters included in the collection. In the letter, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid reflects on key milestones in Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s journey and the qualities he has witnessed in him through decades of shared work and partnership.
Reflecting on the lessons of his life, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid writes that cities may be built, structures may rise and facilities may be established, but what ultimately matters is the spirit of a nation — the spirit that unites its people, safeguards stability, inspires generations and motivates its youth.
Addressing Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, he writes, “Today, you are that spirit.”
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said the book represents a reflection on nearly six decades of public service and the responsibility of passing knowledge and experience to future generations.
“Life has taught me that our years are part of the story of our nations… Wisdom lies in adding a chapter worthy of being read by the generations to come,” he wrote.
He added that he had written letters to his brothers, children, grandchildren, team members and the people of the UAE, as well as to everyone who sees value in reflecting on the nation’s journey.
“I wrote these letters because our years pass… But ideas grow and endure,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said, stressing that sharing experience is a trust that can help shorten the path for those who assume responsibility in the future.
He said he had gathered the letters in a book titled “The Letters,” describing it as the second part of “Lessons from Life,” and opened the collection with a letter to his “brother, friend and companion on the journey, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.”
Comprising 26 letters, “The Letters” is addressed to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s children and family, his team, UAE citizens and readers around the world. The letters explore a range of subjects in an emotional and reflective style, drawing on the experiences of Dubai and the UAE and nearly six decades of public service.
The book reflects on lessons learned, experiences gained, decisions made, projects completed and a life devoted to serving people.
The launch further underscores Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s commitment to sharing his knowledge and experience across various fields, while contributing to Arabic literature through the art of letter writing. The book also seeks to provide inspiration for leaders, decision-makers and young people aspiring to help shape the future.
