Baku Climate Action Week Highlights Sustainable Energy and Regional Cooperation

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW2026) hosted a roundtable discussion focusing on the role of sustainable energy centres in strengthening climate resilience, promoting innovation and accelerating energy transitions.
Titled “Regional Dialogue on the Role of Sustainable Energy Centers in Promoting Climate Resilience, Innovation and Energy Transitions,” the roundtable brought together experts and representatives to discuss ways to develop sustainable energy systems and advance regional cooperation.
Discussions focused on expanding renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, deploying innovative technologies and strengthening cooperation among countries to support the transition towards cleaner and more resilient energy systems.
Mukhtar Babayev, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues and President of COP29, emphasized the importance of expanding renewable energy capacity, improving energy efficiency, modernizing energy grids and deploying advanced technologies to accelerate the global energy transition.
Babayev noted that achieving these objectives would require substantial investment and emphasized the importance of mobilizing the necessary financial resources to support sustainable energy development.
Nigar Arpadarai, Azerbaijani MP and Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29, said the energy transition should be viewed not only as a technological transformation but also as an important driver of economic and social development.
She stressed that cooperation among the private sector, government institutions and international partners is essential to scaling up sustainable energy projects and ensuring their effective implementation.
Other keynote speakers included Marinette Gaillon, Project Administrator at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and Saken Kalkamanov, Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan’s International Green Technologies and Investment Projects Center.
The roundtable underscored the importance of coordinated regional efforts to promote clean energy, strengthen climate resilience and accelerate innovation in support of a sustainable energy future.
