Rybakina Presented with Prestigious WTA World No. 1 Trophy in New York

New York, The Gulf Observer: Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina has received the prestigious Chris Evert WTA World No. 1 Trophy in New York after officially reaching the top position in the women’s tennis world rankings for the first time in her career.

Rybakina has made history by becoming the 30th woman to reach the WTA world No. 1 ranking and the first tennis player, male or female, from Kazakhstan to achieve the milestone.

The special trophy features a silver tennis ball designed in the form of a “star map,” symbolising the women who have previously held the top ranking. It is named in honour of American tennis legend Chris Evert, who became the first WTA world No. 1 following the introduction of computerised rankings in 1975.

Rybakina secured the historic ranking after defeating China’s Zheng Qinwen 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the US Open quarterfinals. Following the conclusion of the tournament, the WTA released its updated rankings on September 14, officially placing Rybakina at the summit.

The achievement marks a significant milestone for Kazakhstan and further strengthens Rybakina’s position among the leading figures in international women’s tennis.

Her rise to the top of the WTA rankings represents a historic accomplishment for Kazakh sport and highlights the country’s growing presence on the global tennis stage.
