Philippines Gains Six New MICHELIN Key Hotel Distinctions in 2026 Selection

Manila, The Gulf Observer: The Philippines’ Department of Tourism (DOT) has welcomed the latest MICHELIN Guide hotel recognition, with six properties receiving new MICHELIN Key distinctions, including two hotels awarded Two MICHELIN Keys for the first time.
El Nido Resorts Lagen Island in Palawan and Raffles Makati have become the first hotels in the Philippines to receive Two MICHELIN Keys, representing an “exceptional stay” under the MICHELIN Guide’s hotel classification.
The MICHELIN Guide recognized El Nido Resorts Lagen Island for its location in a forested cove surrounded by limestone cliffs, its use of Filipino materials and craftsmanship, and its environmentally responsible practices.
Raffles Makati was elevated from One to Two MICHELIN Keys, with the Guide citing its all-suite accommodations, private butler service and intimate residential atmosphere.
Four other Philippine properties received their first One MICHELIN Key: NUSTAR Hotel Cebu in Cebu City; El Nido Resorts Pangulasian Island in Palawan; Hotel Okura Manila at Newport World Resorts in Pasay City; and Manami Resort in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.
Meanwhile, Nay Palad Hideaway in Siargao, Fairmont Makati and Amanpulo in Palawan retained their One MICHELIN Key distinctions from the previous year.
With the announcement of the 2026 MICHELIN Key selection, the Philippines now has a total of nine hotels recognized with MICHELIN Keys.
“This recognition reflects the continued growth of Philippine hospitality and the dedication of our tourism stakeholders in creating exceptional experiences for travelers from around the world,” Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said in a news release.
She added that the recognition would help position the Philippines as a destination offering exceptional accommodation experiences, ranging from island resorts to urban hotels, while highlighting the country’s tradition of Filipino hospitality.
The MICHELIN Guide evaluates hotels according to five universal criteria: excellence in architecture and interior design; quality and consistency of service; overall personality and character; value for the price; and a significant contribution to the surrounding neighborhood or setting.
The MICHELIN Key serves as the hotel equivalent of the MICHELIN Star awarded to restaurants. Hotels may receive One, Two or Three MICHELIN Keys based on the quality and distinctiveness of the overall guest experience.
A One MICHELIN Key represents a “very special stay,” recognizing a hotel described by the Guide as a true gem with personality and service that goes beyond expectations. Two MICHELIN Keys denote an “exceptional stay,” highlighting hotels considered unique and capable of providing a memorable experience.
Angara-Mathay said the latest recognition would contribute to strengthening the Philippine tourism brand and added that the DOT would continue working with tourism industry partners to further enhance the quality of hospitality services across the country.
