Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan Discuss Expansion of Bilateral Cooperation

Turkmenbashi, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Thursday held a meeting in Turkmenbashi to discuss the state and prospects of bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the two leaders fondly recalled their recent mutual visits, including President Ilham Aliyev’s visits to Turkmenistan and the visits of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Azerbaijan, including Garabagh.

The sides emphasized the important role of these high-level contacts in further strengthening bilateral ties, noting that five high-level visits between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan since last year demonstrate the intensity of political dialogue and the dynamic development of bilateral engagement.

The presidents welcomed the steady development of friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries and exchanged views on ways to expand cooperation in political, economic, transport, transit, logistics, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

They also discussed matters related to the Caspian Sea and cooperation within international organizations.

The importance of the 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia was highlighted, particularly in terms of further strengthening Azerbaijan’s partnership with the countries of the region, expanding regional cooperation and addressing issues of mutual interest.

President Ilham Aliyev praised the excellent organization of the consultative meeting and related events.

Recalling Azerbaijan’s accession as a full-fledged participant in the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in November last year, President Aliyev once again expressed gratitude for the unanimous support extended to the historic initiative proposed by Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The two presidents also exchanged views on the prospects for further bilateral cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.
