Algeria

Algiers, The Gulf Observer: Algeria’s Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held talks with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola on October 15, 2026, to review bilateral relations and explore ways to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting took place ahead of their co-chairing of a ministerial meeting dedicated to following up on the implementation of the outcomes of the seventh session of the Algeria–South Africa High-Level Joint Cooperation Commission, held in Algiers in December 2024.

During the talks, the two ministers reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for their further development, in line with the directives of the leaders of both countries to strengthen their strategic partnership.

They also assessed progress in implementing bilateral commitments and discussed translating the objectives outlined in the Strategic Partnership Declaration, signed in December 2024, into concrete projects and practical results reflecting the depth of relations and their shared aspirations.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the ministers to exchange views on several regional and international issues of mutual concern and discuss ways to enhance coordination and consultation within the African Union, the United Nations and other multilateral forums.

Particular attention was given to developments in the Middle East and the Western Sahara issue, underscoring the importance of continued diplomatic engagement and cooperation between Algeria and South Africa on matters of shared interest.
