Ankara, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has stressed that violations of agreements concluded at the highest level within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) are unacceptable, calling for stronger institutional mechanisms, clearer priorities and enhanced coordination among member countries.

He made these remarks while addressing the 13th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Ankara, according to the press service of Kazakhstan’s Presidential Administration, Akorda.

President Tokayev noted that the scope of the OTS had expanded considerably in recent years, covering around 60 different areas of cooperation. However, he observed that some of the Organization’s functions overlapped, making it necessary to identify key areas of joint activity and establish clearly defined tasks and priorities.

Emphasizing the importance of institutional strengthening, the Kazakh President proposed establishing a Council of Permanent Representatives under the OTS to improve coordination and ensure more effective implementation of decisions.

He also reiterated Kazakhstan’s position that the Organization of Turkic States is not a military alliance and should never become one, recalling his earlier remarks at a high-level meeting in Turkistan in May this year.

“This is Kazakhstan’s position,” Tokayev stated.

The President called on member states to consolidate their efforts to achieve common objectives and expressed confidence that the Ankara summit would provide fresh impetus to the Organization’s activities and further strengthen cooperation among Turkic nations.

He particularly acknowledged Azerbaijan’s valuable contribution to enhancing the international standing of the OTS during its chairmanship, which began last year, and expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for its efforts.

Tokayev noted that the chairmanship was now passing to Türkiye, expressing confidence that new initiatives would be introduced to advance the Organization’s work in the coming period.

He also thanked Kubanychbek Omuraliev for his services and wished success to the incoming Secretary-General, Mirokhid Azimov.

The Kazakh President expressed appreciation to the President of Türkiye for hosting the summit and concluded by calling for greater unity and solidarity among Turkic peoples.

The summit highlighted the importance of institutional development, adherence to agreements, political coordination and strengthened cooperation among member states in advancing the shared objectives of the Organization of Turkic States.
